Improperly installed locks can by bypassed in just a few seconds. Rekey the locks you ve bought to match your existing house key. To change the lock on a regular door knob first use a screwdriver to remove the door knob and the old latch. Begin by removing the screws from the door knob on the interior side of your door.

When all the doors are closed and the key is in the on position moving the shift lever out of park will automatically lock all doors. The only way to lock or unlock the knob is by using a key on the exterior knob ensuring that both you and your key are on the same side of the door. Unlike the methods described above the tools necessary for this job are very easy to acquire. Pry up on it until it comes loose and remove it.

Mode 1 links the automatic locking only of the doors with the shift position. Next put a new latch in and replace the door knob. If your house keys are ever stolen one of your first orders of business is changing the locks on your doors so no one can gain access. Alternatively you can buy a re keying kit for the lock you already have.

Buy a grade 2 or grade 1 door locks. Replace the lock latch. Insert the old key and turn it either to the left or right. Remove the two screws from the latch plate on the edge of the door and remove the latch from the opening.

Remove the old lock. Check for proper lock alignment. In some cases door latch plate mortises might need to be cut or enlarged. Do not skip this last step.
